Who controls your data
RealHomly is the data controller for personal information collected through this platform. We operate in compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) 2019 and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

Account data
Name, email address, phone number, password hash, and selected role (tenant or landlord) when you register.
Identity verification data
Government-issued ID documents, selfies, and associated metadata submitted through our verification flow. This data is stored securely and processed only for identity confirmation.
Property listing data
Listing content, photos, videos, prices, and location data uploaded by landlords.
Transactional data
Payment references, amounts, and timestamps processed via Paystack. We do not store full card numbers or bank credentials.
Usage data
Pages visited, search queries, properties saved, viewing requests, messages sent, and application submissions.
Device and technical data
IP address, browser type, and session metadata collected automatically for security and fraud prevention.

How we use your data
We use your data to: (a) create and manage your account; (b) display and filter property listings; (c) route messages, viewing requests, and applications between landlords and tenants; (d) process payments via Paystack; (e) verify landlord and tenant identities through our moderation workflow; (f) send transactional emails about listing status, viewings, and account security; (g) detect fraud, abuse, and platform policy violations; (h) improve our product based on aggregated, anonymised usage patterns.

We process your personal data on the following legal bases under Nigerian data protection law: (a) Contract — processing necessary to provide the service you signed up for; (b) Legitimate interests — security, fraud prevention, and platform integrity; (c) Consent — for optional features such as marketing emails and saved search alerts, which you can withdraw at any time; (d) Legal obligation — where required by Nigerian law or a court order.

With other users
Landlord contact details are shared with tenants who request viewings or submit applications. Tenant names are shared with landlords when applications are submitted.
With service providers
We share data with: Supabase (database and authentication hosting); Paystack (payment processing); Resend (transactional email delivery); Africa's Talking (SMS notifications). All providers are bound by data processing agreements.
With scouts
Property addresses and landlord contact details are shared with assigned RealHomly scouts solely for the purpose of conducting physical inspections.
Legal disclosure
We may disclose personal data where required by Nigerian law, a court order, or a request from a government authority with jurisdiction.
6. Data retention
Data retention
We retain account data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., payment records for tax purposes, which are retained for 7 years). Identity verification submissions are retained for 12 months after the verification decision.

Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; correct inaccurate data; request deletion of your data (subject to legal retention requirements); object to certain processing activities; withdraw consent where processing is consent-based; lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). We use browser local storage to remember UI preferences (such as recent searches and onboarding progress). We do not use third-party advertising cookies. Session management relies on Supabase secure cookies, which are strictly necessary for authentication and cannot be opted out of while using the platform.

Security
We apply industry-standard security measures including: TLS encryption in transit; encrypted storage for sensitive fields; row-level security policies in our database; access controls limiting which staff can view personal data; regular security reviews. Despite these measures, no system is entirely immune to breach. In the event of a material breach affecting your data, we will notify you as required by law.

Children
RealHomly is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a minor has registered, contact us at support@realhomly.com and we will delete the account promptly.
11. Changes to this policy
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the platform evolves or as legal requirements change. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. Continued use of the platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
